SFMOMA Opens Store And Artists Gallery At Embarcadero Center

On July 16, 2001, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) MuseumStore and the SFMOMA Artists Gallery join forces in San Francisco’s Financial District to open a new store at Embarcadero Center. Located on the lobby level of Embarcadero Four, the new SFMOMA MuseumStore and Artists Gallery at Embarcadero Center will offer a distinctive selection of merchandise from the award-winning MuseumStore in the Museum building on Third Street#&151;including art books, contemporary jewelry, design objects and educational toys#&151;as well as fine art from the SFMOMA Artists Gallery at Fort Mason.

The SFMOMA MuseumStore and Artists Gallery at Embarcadero Center will also debut a corporate gift program that features a distinctive selection of fine merchandise catering to the corporate clientele of the Financial District. This program will include items such as Italian leather stationery items, designer desk accessories and executive toys, among other gift selections.

SFMOMA MuseumStore

In addition to a selection of modern and contemporary art books, exhibition catalogues and artist monographs, the SFMOMA MuseumStore and Artists Gallery at Embarcadero Center features an unparalleled section of fine jewelry made by internationally renowned artisans and designers; a collection of women’s and men’s silk scarves that reflect the bold, modernist architecture of the Museum building; decorative accessories and sleek design objects; and contemporary crafts such as wooden bowls, ceramic wares and glass and metal items, many created in limited editions and only available at the Embarcadero location.

Since 1995, the SFMOMA MuseumStore, located in the Museum building at 151 Third Street, has been the most successful museum store per square foot in the country. In winter 2001, the MuseumStore spread its wings and opened a satellite store in the new international terminal at San Francisco International Airport.

SFMOMA Artists Gallery

The new SFMOMA MuseumStore and Artists Gallery at Embarcadero Center features a rotating exhibition schedule highlighting local artists with framed and unframed work for sale, from photography and works on paper to small sculptures.

Established in 1978, the SFMOMA Artists Gallery provides exposure and support to West Coast artists. Now representing over 1,300 artists, the gallery serves a broad range of corporate and individual patrons through its art rental and sales operations. The SFMOMA Artists Gallery mounts 10 exhibitions and one warehouse sale per year showcasing contemporary Bay Area artists working in all media. Many of the artists who began their careers with exhibitions at the Artists Gallery have gone on to achieve critical recognition and financial success nationally and internationally.
