Celebrate Father’s Day with the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) on Sunday, June 17, 2007, when the Museum presents Figure It Out: 3-D Fun-damentals, a daylong celebration of creativity in all its incarnations. Using the exhibition Matisse: Painter as Sculptor as a starting point, the day’s programs explore notions of form through an array of hands-on art projects, docent-led gallery activities, music, and performances designed for the whole family.

Baguette Quartette (musical performance)
Transport yourself to the streets of Paris through the music of Baguette Quartette. Led by accordionist Odile Lavault, the Bay Area–based group performs songs played on Parisian street corners and in cafes and dance halls during the twenties, thirties, and forties.

Cut, Color, Collage (art activity)
Explore shapes and design in this colorful paper-collage activity inspired by Henri Matisse. Matisse created masterpieces using only scissors and paper; local artists Christine Choi and Wednesday Kirwan will help you do the same in this drop-in workshop.

Spectacular Studies in Sculpture (art activity)
The exhibition Matisse: Painter as Sculptor explores Henri Matisse’s movement between drawing and sculpture as part of his creative process. Create your own paper studies and sculptures using ballerinas from the Shan-Yee Poon Ballet School and various still-life props for inspiration. Guest artist Barbara Carbone leads the art-making fun.

Youth Circus Group (performance)
Don’t miss the world premiere of Impressions, an innovative show in which San Francisco Circus’s Youth Circus Group interprets and responds to great works of art by Pablo Picasso, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Marc Chagall, and Jackson Pollock. Impressions showcases circus arts such as trapeze, acrobatics, clowning, and dance to blend performance and art into a jaw-dropping three-dimensional experience.
