The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA)’s popular MuseumStore at 51 Yerba Buena Lane is ready for the holidays with an array of carefully curated items, including artisan jewelry and accessories, housewares, children’s gifts, and a choice selection of art and design books. While the museum’s 235,000-square-foot Snøhetta-designed building expansion steadily rises toward completion in 2016, SFMOMA’s MuseumStore has remained an active presence in the neighborhood in its temporary location during construction and continues to offer local and out-of-town shoppers alike one of the city’s best resources for artful gifts. From exclusive, limited-edition items made by hand to affordable stocking stuffers, the MuseumStore has something to delight everyone this season. Shoppers can also find gifts online at museumstore.sfmoma.org and at the MuseumStore at San Francisco International Airport. Below are just a few highlights from the store’s 2014 holiday offerings.

CHARCUTERIE, CHEESE, AND CHEER
Adding flair to even the most fashionable of holiday affairs, the Hex Champagne Bucket ($235) is made from solid copper that is hammered into a hexagonal pattern and buffed to a high polish. Each individual champagne bucket develops a unique patina as the cooper oxidizes, making it a truly one-of-a-kind gift. Every party needs a little spice, especially those that take place in the kitchen. The Tower Salt and Pepper Grinders ($75 and $85) by Tom Dixon provide just that. SFMOMA’s long-standing commitment to local designers and artisans continues with the Tina Frey Charcuterie Boards ($140), available in white or gray. Designed and hand-sculpted by Tina Frey in San Francisco, these serving platters will be the belle of any ball.

HOLIDAY SPARKLE
Hand-formed from a single sheet of brass, the Form Bowls ($130) designed by Tom Dixon shine with a quiet elegance. Travel the world from the comfort of home with the Silver Latitude World Globe by Torre & Tagus ($130), a swivel globe swathed in a beautiful monochromatic silver that elevates the traditional desk accessory to new heights of beauty and elegance. Handmade in Poland by workshop Deco Echo, the Gold Links Necklace ($795) is a MuseumStore exclusive. Made from sterling silver and finished with gold plating, this necklace is a showstopper.

GAMES AND FAMILY FUN
Art meets science in the Blockitecture Ten-Piece Set ($25) of nesting hand-painted blocks. Families can build as high as gravity and the laws of physics allow while enjoying the beauty of the blocks’ simple design. The MuseumStore’s new range of classic games by Wild & Wolf ($19–$22), including backgammon, Chinese checkers, and dominoes, provide fun for the whole family and come in beautiful geometric-patterned boxes from England. The Sailing Ship Kite ($42) is made by Haptic Lab in collaboration with Balinese artisans from locally sourced bamboo and nylon. Families can fly the vivid red-orange kite on any strong wind, whether from a beach, hilltop, or city park.

MADE BY HAND IN THE UNITED STATES
The Walnut Boxcar 3-Piece Planter ($66) will look beautiful gracing any window sill, porch, or table. Designed by Joe Gibson and made by Revolution Design House in Portland, Oregon, this stunning three-piece planter has stainless-steel inserts and comes with blue, orange, or white accents. In the midst of fast and cheap synthetic-fiber fashion, the Josi Faye Cowl Scarf ($120) is crafted using traditional textile methods and handspun yarn. Created from locally-sourced, high-quality natural fibers, each piece is produced in limited runs and takes hours to complete. Designed by the husband-and-wife duo Oropopo, the Chevron Leather Earrings ($34) take design inspiration from Native American, classic Western, and Southwestern cultures.

$50 AND UNDER
Whimsy is king during the holiday season, and for those who fill their stockings with walnuts, the Robot Nut Cracker ($40) is just the thing. This stoic little man will break into any nut, and pull a smile out of every relative. The laser-cut birch Cuckoo Pendulum Clock ($45) offers a contemporary twist on the traditional cuckoo. This gift hits the right price point and gets style points as well. Both practical and high-design, the Touchscreen Color-Blocked Gloves ($34) are sure to charm with Rothko-esque color blocking and nano-metallic conductive yarn in the thumb, index, and middle fingertips that allows pinpoint accuracy on all touchscreen devices.

KIDS
Simple yet unique, the Balloon Bunny Bank ($40) á la Jeff Koons makes saving money fun and fashionable. WARNING: Parents may try to steal this away from their kiddos. The Spherovelo Balance Bike ($110) is the first push-along bike to accelerate the development of young children by helping them make the connection between their senses and their motor system. Made in the UK, this spiffy little bike won the prestigious Red Dot Product Design Award in 2013. The MuseumStore also offers a large array of art books for children, such Alexander Calder: Meet the Artist ($24.95), which introduces little ones to the vast world of modern art.
