Effective July 1, admission prices to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) will increase by one dollar. All Museum admission policies remain in effect, including free admission to all on the first Tuesday of every month; free admission for children 12 and under; free admission for SFMOMA members and a guest; and half-price admission every Thursday after 6 p.m.
Philosophically, the Museum wishes to avoid the practice of charging temporary premiums for large exhibitions the way so many museums across the country do. SFMOMA believes the price should reflect the consistently high quality of programming at the Museum as well as increasing operating costs. SFMOMA has not raised its prices since 1999 despite significant cost increases due to a fuller program schedule and large-scale exhibitions that have been remarkably popular, such as the exhibitions Magritte, Keith Haring, Alexander Calder and Richard Diebenkorn.
