SFMOMA's Contemporary Extension Hosts Vertigo, A Gala Event And Silent Auction

Released: April 16, 2003 · Download (26 KB PDF)

What
Join the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA)’s young professional auxiliary Contemporary Extension (cx) for VERTIGO, a star-studded photography exhibition, silent auction and gala event on Saturday, June 21, 2003. Partygoers will mix with celebrity guests, whet their appetites with champagne cocktails, sushi and desserts, dance to the beats of some of San Francisco’s most popular DJs and bid on photographs by some of their favorite superstars.

The theme of the party is based on the film Vertigo, arguably Alfred Hitchcock’s masterpiece, set in San Francisco. VERTIGO refers to the film, to Hitchcock, to all of San Francisco and to a breathtaking fear of heights that results in warped perspectives.

Photographs by celebrities—actors such as Robin Wright Penn, Alan Cummings, Margaret Cho, The Muppets and Jennifer Sky; writer Dave Eggers; performer Beth Lisick; musicians Bill Gould of band Faith No More and John Doe of X; producer Henry Rosenthal, and many others—will be on view and available at the VERTIGO silent auction. These luminaries have used point-and-shoot cameras to capture their own interpretations of vertigo.

VERTIGO will also feature performance artists from the San Francisco Art Institute, mobile installations by California College of Arts and Crafts students, laser projections and an instant photo booth so guests can take their own party shots of VERTIGO.
