This view of the back of Mother of God was taken while the work was resting on its side. Here we see the wood supports that were added to the Masonite panel for a later framing. The Rauschenberg studio registry number for this work, “50.3,” is written in pencil on the Masonite and on the wooden bar at far right; this numbering is near the top of the panel when the work is right side up.
