Released: August 04, 2000 ·

At the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) MuseumStore—located in the new international terminal at the San Francisco International Airport (SFO), opening January 17, 2001—travelers will get a taste of what the Bay Area art scene has to offer. Like the MuseumStore in the SFMOMA building, the new MuseumStore at SFO—the only retail establishment in the San Francisco International Airport dedicated exclusively to art, architecture and design—will feature unique gifts, jewelry, apparel, cards, design objects and books. The merchandise selection, tailored to the traveler, includes gifts, souvenirs and goods that can be easily tucked into carry-on bags. The SFMOMA MuseumStore at SFO will also highlight products related to art in the Museum’s collection. In-store computer kiosks by Planet Interactive, a full service multimedia development company that specializes in creating web sites, CD-ROMs, kiosks, museum installations and digital animation, will feature up-to-the-minute information about the Museum’s exhibitions and programs and other Bay Area art institutions. Visitors to the SFMOMA MuseumStore at SFO will be able to purchase Museum memberships and admissions tickets online at the kiosks.

New graphic packaging will be introduced for the products at the SFMOMA MuseumStore at SFO. Items will be available in ready-to-take packaging, enabling quick pick-up and purchasing and easy transport for customers. Carrying handles and sturdy casing will ensure that merchandise is protected during travel. Worldwide shipping services will also be available for customers who do not want to hand carry their purchases.

The SFMOMA MuseumStore at SFO will be the exclusive retail outlet for a commemorative line of SFO Airport merchandise. Designed by Bay Area designer Michael Mabry, special SFO items—such as an SFO T-shirt, note cube, journal and cap—will be available only at the SFMOMA MuseumStore at SFO. The SFMOMA MuseumStore at SFO will also stock a commemorative book celebrating the history of the San Francisco International Airport. Designed by Lucille Tenazas, the book includes historical photos of the airport as well as photos of the new international terminal taken by Richard Barnes.
