Biography

Chuck Sperry is an American artist best known for his screen prints on paper and oak panel, his limited-edition rock posters for bands, and his political protest art. 

Sperry contributed 25 posters to the New Fillmore poster series for Bill Graham Presents starting there in 1994. Soon Virgin Megastore commissioned Sperry to create a series of posters for record releases including Fleetwood Mac, The Rolling Stones, Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, The Beastie Boys, U2 and The Beatles.

Sperry was art director for a series of posters for Goldenvoice, SF producing hundreds of posters for The Warfield and Regency Ballroom from 2008 to 2014. 

Beginning in 2010, many of Sperry’s prints have featured images of muses from Greek mythology. His involvement in the ERA movement as an ally has helped to amplify the message of equal rights for women, creating posters for Artists 4 ERA, Vote Equality, and the Center For Common Ground, and created three posters for the Women’s March movement in 2017, 2018, and 2019. 

Sperry, always broadening his artistic practices, works in paint and tapestry, installation, and publishing along with his screen printing. He has produced three editions of his career spanning book Color x Color: The Sperry Poster Archive 1980-2020. Additionally, he has published three books of his art screen prints: Helikon (2017), Chthoneon (2018), and Idyllion (2022). He currently lives and works in San Francisco.
