JOY ROSS: 

For me, Diane Arbus’s pictures were the only standard that I thought there was to aspire to. And I don’t want to make pictures that look anything like her pictures, but because her pictures were so powerful, that was something that I gauged, I thought you should go towards. 

Because I was so naïve about the world and Arbus knew such secret things about people, I felt that she was someone to aspire to. The way I looked at Arbus is I felt she loved those people. I like the flaws in people. And I accept them all, the whole package.
