Jason Munn

American

1975, Neenah, Wisconsin

Biography

Jason Munn started his career with a love of independent music and design. After studying fine arts at the University of Wisconsin, Menasha, and earning an Associates Degree in Applied Arts from Madison Area Technical College in Madison, Munn quickly became a fixture on the local independent music scene.

Over time Munn made the transition from creating projects for the love of making them to becoming a full-time designer. In 2003 he founded his studio, The Small Stakes, in Oakland, California, where he produces designs for a range of products, including book covers, album packaging, t-shirts, and custom gig posters.

Munn is best known for his poster designs, in which he focuses on images that are concept-driven and restrained, often keeping only what is essential to the composition. His work recalls the decidedly quieter look of Alvin Lustig's book covers from the 1950s.
