Alejandro Cartagena

Born in 1977 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic Currently lives in Monterrey, Mexico Cartagena employs landscape and portraiture to examine social, urban, and environmental issues. His work has been exhibited internationally and has appeared widely in publications such as Domus, Wallpaper, The Financial Times, and The New Yorker. He is represented in several public and private collections in Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Italy, and the United States, including SFMOMA; Museum of Contemporary Photography, Chicago; and the Portland Museum of Art, Portland, Maine. Cartagena won the PHOTOLUCIDA 2009 Critical Mass book award, and was named one of Photo District News magazine's 30 emerging photographers in 2010.
