T. J. Demos is a professor in the Department of History of Art and Visual Culture at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and the founding director of the school’s Center for Creative Ecologies. His most recent book, Decolonizing Nature: Contemporary Art and the Politics of Ecology, was published by Sternberg Press in 2016. An extended version of “Desire in Diaspora: Emily Jacir” appeared in his book The Migrant Image: The Art and Politics of Documentary during Global Crisis (Duke University Press, 2013).
