Born in 1970 in Long Beach, California Currently lives in Mexico City
Yvonne Venegas is a graduate of the certification program at the International Center of Photography in New York and received her MFA at the University of California, San Diego. In New York she assisted photographers such as Dana Lixenberg, Bruce Weber, and Juergen Teller. She has shown her work individually and in group shows throughout the U.S., Mexico, Poland, Spain, France, and Canada.
In 2010 Venegas received the Magnum Expression Award, given by the renowned photography agency Magnum, as well as a Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte Grant from Mexico's National Fund for Culture and the Arts (FONCA). Her work is in numerous collections in the U.S. and Mexico, including the permanent collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, Fundación Televisa, Centro de la Imagen in Mexico City, and the Anna Abello Collection. Her book Maria Elvia de Hank was published by the editorial house RM in 2010.
