The thousands of artworks at SFMOMA offer countless opportunities to look closely and think deeply about some of the most amazing artists of our time. To celebrate both the artists on view in the newly expanded museum and the creative communities of the Bay Area, 50 Artists invites local artists and creative professionals to share how icons of modern and contemporary art matter to them. This week, SFMOMA’s own Claudia La Rocco explores Lutz Bacher’s installation Black Beauty.

La Rocco is a writer whose work frequently revolves around interdisciplinary projects and collaborations. She is the author of the selected writings The Best Most Useless Dress (Badlands Unlimited), and the novel petit cadeau (The Chocolate Factory Theater). Her poetry and prose have been published in such anthologies and chapbooks as 6×6 #34: I Like Softness (Ugly Duckling Presse), Imagined Theatres: Writing for a Theoretical Stage (Routledge), and On Value (Triple Canopy). She is editor-in-chief of SFMOMA’s art and culture platform Open Space.
