Adam Pendleton and Deerhoof Present BAND

A project of New York-based artist Pendleton with the experimental musicians of Deerhoof, BAND is an unfolding artwork that re-imagines Jean-Luc Godard’s film Sympathy for the Devil.

Godard documents the Rolling Stones as they record the lead track of their 1968 album Beggar’s Banquet, while also meditating on the Black Panthers, May 1968, and the possibilities of global revolution. In BAND, Pendleton creates a three-channel video tracking Deerhoof’s recording of “I Did Crimes for You,” from their recent release Deerhoof vs. Evil. BAND‘s SFMOMA appearance will include new footage of David Hilliard, former chief of staff of the Black Panther Party, touring landmark Black Panther Party sites in Oakland, an onstage interview with Hilliard, and a Deerhoof performance with projections by Pendleton. Also, Blue Bottle Coffee and SFMOMA debut their BANQUET series with Beggar’s BANQUET on the Rooftop Garden.
