Free with museum admission. This event takes place on a First Thursday when museum admission is free to Bay Area residents.
One day only! Metallica’s Lars Ulrich steps away from his custom TAMA drum kit and invites you to take his seat. In celebration of Ulrich’s 40 years with TAMA Drums, his seven-piece 2017 Hardwired… To Self-Destruct purple sparkle drum kit will be on view and available for a selection of guest drummers — and the public — to play throughout the day. Cheer on the drummers who take a spin or perhaps take a turn at the kit. Enjoy concert footage of Metallica across their career and contribute your memorable musical moments to a fan wall. This event is presented in conjunction with the exhibition Art of Noise.
Please note: Lars Ulrich will not be present for this event.
Time slots for playing the drums will be limited; signups will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis at the entrance to the Gina and Stuart Peterson White Box on Floor 4.
