Victoire de la vie and L’Espagne vivra screen courtesy of Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson. With the Abraham Lincoln Brigade in Spain screens courtesy of ALBA.

These films evidence Cartier-Bresson’s committed support for the Republican cause in the Spanish Civil War. The photographer’s first foray into motion pictures, Victoire de la vie (Return to Life) focuses on the need for medical aid, while L’Espagne vivra (Spain Will Live) offers a painfully prescient view of the spread of fascism in Europe.

Just added! With the Abraham Lincoln Brigade in Spain is a “lost” film by Cartier-Bresson that was in the Abraham Lincoln Brigade Archives (ALBA) and only recently attributed to him. The film chronicles the activities of American volunteer troops before and after their deployment to the front.
