Darrin Alfred, curatorial associate, architecture and design, SFMOMA

Stauffacher has been a preeminent figure in the fields of fine book design and letterpress printing for more than 40 years. Featured in Belles Lettres, Stauffacher’s The Vico Portfolio is a typographic experiment in which letters were used to make prints of semiabstract graphic compositions. Alfred presents the work before introducing the documentary Jack Stauffacher, Printer (2002, 22 min.) by filmmaker Jim Faris. The video is also available for viewing in the Koret Visitor Education Center upon request; call the Koret Center at 415.538.2693 for details.
