In Josephine Decker’s Madeline’s Madeline, a teenage actor (Helena Howard) joins a theater troupe where she is encouraged to build a character from her life, including a fraught relationship with her mother (Miranda July). The hypnotic experimental visuals from cinematographer Ashley Connor build an immersive, frenetic psychological space as lines between reality and the stage begin to blur.
