Varda creates a somnambular world where images tell their own stories, independent of a single central narrative but powerful in their own right. Murs Murs is Varda’s ode to California street art. She meanders around Los Angeles, filming the murals she finds, and sometimes tracking down the artists responsible for them. The film is embedded in place, yet through her intimate and empathetic engagement with her subjects — and the images they create — it aims at universality.
