Join us for the opening night of the Latin American Studies Association Film Festival. In Reas (2024), a one-of-a-kind musical documentary, performers reenact their lives and experiences in a Buenos Aires prison. Whether gentle or rough, blonde or shaved, cis or trans, long-term inmates or newly admitted, the performers dance and sing about their past in prison, relive their life as fiction, and invent a possible future for themselves through fantasy and imagination. Through the film, filmmaker Lola Arias explores personal memory alongside the bonds of love and community that develop across the performers to keep them alive in a space of confinement and violence.
