Kick off summer with a rooftop dance party!

Summer is back and so is our popular event Rooftop Radio. For this episode, we’re excited to partner with Dirtybird, an independent electronic music label born in San Francisco, celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Since its creation, Dirtybird has been challenging the conventions of electronic music by blending house and tech-house with funk, humor, and an unpretentious energy that resonated with a generation seeking something real, raw, and fun.

Three fantastic DJs will bring you a thrilling experience all evening long.

About Dirtybird

Launched in 2005 by Claude VonStroke, Dirtybird is one of the most iconic house and techno label imprints. For nearly 20 years, Dirtybird has highlighted the best and brightest dance talents, including today’s stars like Walker & Royce and VNSSA. Dirtybird has more than 350 releases on its main label, has hosted beloved events like their Campout festival and traveling BBQ series, and has built a dedicated and ever-growing fanbase. In that time, Dirtybird has racked countless accomplishments, like being named Mixmag’s “Label of the Decade” in 2017 and profiled for DJ Mag’s North American cover feature in 2020. Now part of EMPIRE Dance since its acquisition in 2022, Dirtybird continues to bring their off-kilter beats and quirky spirit to people — including the 10,000 attendees at their hometown San Francisco Embarcadero takeover in 2024.

About the Artists

Kevin Knapp; photo: Myles Heidenreich

Kevin Knapp

Oakland-based Kevin Knapp keeps things punchy. His kicks are designed to make booties drop. His grooves balance the thunderous with the beautiful and synths ensure the club pops right off. It has been this way for more than a decade since the American first broke through and brought with him his lifelong love of 90s hip hop. Today, he is right at the forefront of the house scene as a DJ, producer, and Plump Recordings label boss who proudly advocates body-positive, queer-positive, and anti-racist messages in everything he does.

J.Phlip

Ever since the purchase of a cheap set of belt-drive decks and a mixer on her 19th birthday, J.Phlip hasn’t looked back. She won a DJ competition in 2005, toured the US, and moved from her hometown (Champaign, Illinois) to the birthplace of house music, Chicago. She moved to San Francisco in 2007 and it wasn’t long before her determination and natural talent broke through in her new home city. Her sound continued to evolve as a result of the freedom she felt in San Francisco. Club and festival tours are now a regular occurrence while her releases and unique ear have established her as a reputable source of forward-thinking dancefloor tracks. Go hear J.Phlip in action and you can expect to experience a full booty workout and have your mind blown.

Mark Farina

Mark Farina is a name that rings out across the entire global dance music industry. His nonstop touring, constant content creation, partnerships with legendary venues and record labels, and total commitment to showcasing the best new and old school producers in his sets have made him a living legend to lovers of house and Mushroom Jazz everywhere. The last few years have been an incredible new era of creativity, outreach, and recognition for one of the most original and consistent voices in the business. Farina continues to connect with new fans without losing those who have been loyal supporters from day one.

Sam Flores

Originally hailing from New Mexico, Sam Flores landed in the Bay Area in the late 90s. Ever since, Flores has developed a passionate fan base while advancing his talent through ever-changing themes, such as innocence, femininity, natural beauty, and melancholy sentiments. Flores’ subject matter includes a myriad of anthropomorphic characters and beautiful goddesses inspired by Japanese Edo–period landscapes, urban contemporary/graf–inspired montages, and pop-surrealist environments. His most recent works are inspired by Mexican pulp comic art and classical portraiture.
