Meet us at the museum and around the Bay for Local Affairs, a series dedicated to local arts communities. Join us as we celebrate Bay Area culture and artists of all disciplines, and share ideas, good will, food, and drink.
This November, join us at ODC Theater in the Mission District to witness ten Bay Area visual, literary, and performing artists responding to the legacy of choreographer Merce Cunningham. Following a period of study with Rashaun Mitchell and Silas Riener — former Cunningham dancers —Signals from the West culminates with the commissioned artists presenting new work alongside excerpts of Cunningham repertory, staged by Bay Area dancers. A reception follows the Saturday evening event.
Prior to the first evening of performances, ODC Theater will host a free talk with choreographers and dancers Mitchell and Riener about the Cunningham legacy in relationship to lineage, transmission, abstraction, and cultural identity. RSVP to the free November 7 talk at ODC Theater here.
