SOMA Pilipinas is bringing back its annual Pride celebration highlighting the history and presence of the LGBTQIA+ community in the South of Market, San Francisco’s Filipino Cultural Heritage District.
The MAKIBEKI Pride Celebration (MAKIBEKI is a playful blend of makibaka, meaning to “struggle, resist, defy” in Tagalog) builds upon the community’s legacy of resistance against displacement and erasure, and celebrates queer and trans Filipinx/os whose presence has always shaped the community.
This year’s SOMA Pilipinas Pride will include a short procession, a program with a lineup of Filipinx performers, and a resource fair. More details soon.
