This event was previously scheduled on October 19.

Discover hidden gems and hear from multiple perspectives in this series of gallery talks. Each month, an SFMOMA staff member highlights work that pushes boundaries, defies expectations, and inspires deep thinking. You might find a new favorite!

This month, Barbara and Stephan Vermut Associate Curator of Public Dialogue Deena Chalabi discusses new tapestries and paintings by artist, poet, and Bay Area legend Etel Adnan.

Chalabi’s projects and programs explore the meaning of contemporary art and culture, and its impact on public life, emphasizing collaboration and connections between people, places, and ideas, locally and globally. Chalabi helped found Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art in Doha, Qatar, which opened to the public in December 2010. She has organized symposia about art and cultural exchange in Doha, London, Liverpool, and Tokyo, and her writing has appeared in Bidoun, ArtAsiaPacific, The New Inquiry, and the International Journal of Visual Culture.
