The Photographic Event Day 2

Day two of The Photographic Event symposium continues to explore photography’s multifaceted relationship to time, history, and memory. Join us on Saturday for the US debut of Joana Hadjithomas and Khalil Joreige’s performance Latent Images: Diary of a Photographer, followed by panel discussions and presentations with Hadjithomas, Jananne Al-Ani, Phil Chang, and Trevor Paglen.

Latent Images: Diary of a Photographer

The Photographic Event includes the US debut of Joana Hadjithomas and Khalil Joreige’s performance of the book Latent Images: Diary of a Photographer, the third part of their Wonder Beirut project. The book includes 38 photographic plates selected from among hundreds of reels of exposed but undeveloped film shot by Lebanese photographer Abdallah Farah between 1997 and 2006.

After the Event

In this panel discussion moderated by Dominic Willsdon, artists Phil Chang and Joana Hadjithomas discuss photography as performance and investigate what is left behind after the photographic event, both seen and unseen.

Jananne Al-Ani and Trevor Paglen present on their work, followed by a discussion moderated by Deena Chalabi considering photographic practices as different modes of investigation, from archeological to technological. In the final portion of the evening, participants reflect on the questions raised over the last two days of the symposium.
