Throughout her life, Agnès Varda eluded categorization into a single movement or genre. She was constantly reframing her identity as a filmmaker and stretching the boundaries of her oeuvre. This 2019 documentary, released just over a month before her death, is Varda’s last retelling of her story in the world of cinema. Using the principles of inspiration, creation, and sharing as her guiding lights, Varda takes her audience through this cinematic retrospective, reflecting on the circumstances, ideas, and people that helped shape her films.
