Artcast June 2012: Game-changers

In this episode we'll examine three game-changers – an exhibition, an artist, and a visionary thinker — that have fed the culture of experimentation in the Bay Area. First we'll hear from Erica Gangsei and Sam Lavigne about the exhibition ArtGameLab, a show curated by Gangsei that provides visitors with games to play within the museum's galleries. Next, curator Gary Garrels discusses the sculpture Portrait of George (Moscone) by Robert Arneson. The once-scandalous bust, commissioned by the San Francisco Arts Commission, was recently acquired by SFMOMA, finding a permanent home in the city that rejected it shortly after it was completed in 1981. Finally, we end this episode with a segment on the exhibition The Utopian Impulse: Buckminster Fuller and the Bay Area in which curator Jennifer Dunlop Fletcher and filmmaker Sam Green discuss Fuller's legacy as a design revolutionary and explore his ties to the Bay Area.
