SFMOMA Appoints Two New Members To The Board Of Trustees

At their June 12 meeting, the Board of Trustees of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) elected Kenneth McNeely and Marissa Mayer as new members of the Board.

Kenneth McNeely is currently the president of external affairs for AT&T’s operations in California. His appointment followed the close of the historic merger between SBC Communication Inc. and AT&T Corp. in 2005. McNeely served in a variety of capacities with the former AT&T. From 2000 to 2005, he was president of AT&T Communications, California. He joined AT&T in 1991, serving as a corporate attorney in Atlanta, and subsequently represented the company as the vice president of legal and governmental affairs in Florida. McNeely came to San Francisco in February 2000 as vice president of legal and governmental affairs for AT&T’s Pacific Region; he was responsible for all legislative and regulatory matters as well as public policy advocacy for the states of California, Nevada, Alaska, and Hawaii.

McNeely earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his juris doctor from Howard University School of Law. He is a member of the North Carolina State Bar. McNeely also serves as a board member of the California Chamber of Commerce, the California Business Roundtable, the California State University Foundation, and the San Francisco Ballet.

Marissa Mayer is vice president of Search Products and User Experience at Google. She leads the company’s product management efforts on search products, including web search, images, news, books, maps, Google Earth, the Google Toolbar, and more. She joined Google in 1999, as Google’s first female engineer and led the user interface and web server teams at that time. Her efforts have included designing and developing Google’s search interface, internationalizing the site to more than 100 languages, defining Google News and Gmail, and launching more than 100 features and products on Google.com.

Mayer has also taught introductory computer programming classes at Stanford University to more than 3,000 students. She has been featured in various publications, including Newsweek (“10 Tech Leaders of the Future”), Red Herring (“15 Women to Watch”), Business 2.0 (“Silicon Valley Dream Team”), BusinessWeek, Fortune, and Fast Company. Mayer graduated with honors and received her B.S. in Symbolic Systems and her M.S. in Computer Science from Stanford University, specializing in artificial intelligence for both degrees. Mayer also serves at board member of the San Francisco Ballet and is co-owner of I Dream of Cake in San Francisco. She collects work by artists such as Robert Bechtle, Sol Lewitt, and Robert Rauschenberg, to name a few.
