Artwork Detail

This photo shows a drip of white paint along the side of the lower left edge of Untitled [glossy black painting]. The painting is known to have been repainted by Rauschenberg in the 1980s to cover drips of white paint splattered on the work by a careless housepainter. This drip likely dates from that incident. For further discussion of the work’s repaintings, see the essay on Untitled [glossy black painting].
