Literature (Tribute 21) honors the accomplishments of novelist Toni Morrison (b. 1931), author of The Bluest Eye and Beloved. For the latter work she was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for fiction and the National Book Critics Circle Award in 1988. In 1993, the year before the brochure was produced, she won the Nobel Prize in Literature. The following text by Morrison appears on the brochure: “Word-work is sublime . . . because it is generative; it makes meaning that secures our difference, our human difference—the way in which we are like no other life.”
