In Ethnic Cultures (Tribute 21) Rauschenberg pays tribute to the 14th Dalai Lama (b. 1935), the Tibetan Buddhist leader who has reigned since he was recognized in November 1950, at the age of fifteen. He has long been a tireless advocate for Tibet and Tibetans and a supporter of nonviolence and religious harmony throughout the world. In 1989 he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts. The brochure pairs Rauschenberg’s print with a quote by the Dalai Lama that reads: “What is important is that we are all members of one big human family. We should sustain the good human qualities, the human spirit: affection, a warm heart, and love and compassion. These qualities give a purpose to life and peace of mind. You can be a non-believer, but at the same time be a good human being.”
