What is the SFMOMA Scavenger Hunt?
Is the SFMOMA Scavenger Hunt available at all times?
The SFMOMA Scavenger Hunt is available from February 26 to September 13, 2026, while supplies last.
Who can play?
To obtain an SFMOMA Scavenger Hunt passport and to redeem the prize, you must be 19 or older. Anyone with an SFMOMA Scavenger Hunt passport can collect stamps. Both SFMOMA members and nonmembers are welcome to play.
How do I play?
To start, pick up your complimentary SFMOMA Scavenger Hunt passport at our Ticketing or Membership desk or at any red podium on Floor 2, while supplies last.
Visit SFMOMA twice during the activation period (February 26–September 13, 2026). During your visits, collect three mandatory stamps and at least one bonus stamp in your passport to complete the scavenger hunt.
Receive a special exclusive prize when you complete the game.
Where can I pick up my SFMOMA Scavenger Hunt passport?
You can pick up an SFMOMA Scavenger Hunt passport at our Ticketing or Membership desk or at any red podium on Floor 2, while supplies last.
Can I pick up multiple SFMOMA Scavenger Hunt passports?
No. Each player can only pick up one SFMOMA Scavenger Hunt passport.
What are the mandatory and bonus stamps? Where can I find them?
The three mandatory stamps are:
A “First Visit” stamp
- Available at our Ticketing or Membership desk or at any red podium on Floor 2. Admission ticket required.
A “Second Visit” stamp
- Available at our Ticketing or Membership desk or at any red podium on Floor 2. Admission ticket required.
A stamp for visiting Matisse’s Femme au chapeau: A Modern Scandal (May 16–September 13, 2026)
- Available at the exhibition entrance on Floor 4. Special exhibition ticket required.
The three bonus stamps are:
An “Events + Programs” stamp
- Available at select programs — look for a rubber stamp icon on the web page of eligible events.
An “Eat + Sip” stamp
- Available with purchases at any cashier at Jane on Third (Floor 1) or Steps Coffee (Floor 2). Note: Cafe 5 (Floor 5) is not participating.
A “Museum Store” stamp
- Available with purchases from any Museum Store cashier.
Do I need to collect the stamps in a particular order?
No. Stamps can be collected in any order. To complete the game, you need to collect three mandatory stamps and at least one bonus stamp in your SFMOMA Scavenger Hunt passport.
What’s the prize?
The Scavenger Hunt prize is a surprise and will be revealed once you complete the game. When you have three mandatory stamps and at least one bonus stamp in your SFMOMA Scavenger Hunt passport, bring your passport and a valid ID to the Ticketing or Membership desk on Floor 2 to claim your prize.

What’s the deadline to redeem the prize?
The prize must be redeemed by September 13, 2026.
Can I keep my SFMOMA Scavenger Hunt passport after I redeem the prize?
Yes. You may keep your SFMOMA Scavenger Hunt passport after redeeming your prize if you wish. Our staff will mark your passport to indicate that you have collected your prize. A passport can only be redeemed once.
Half-price Individual-level membership
Who can purchase a half-price Individual-level membership?
From February 26 to September 13, 2026, if you are not already an SFMOMA member, you can purchase a half-price Individual-level membership for only $65 once you complete the Scavenger Hunt.
How can I purchase the half-price Individual-level membership?
To purchase, visit our Membership Desk on Floor 2 with your completed SFMOMA Scavenger Hunt passport and a valid ID.
What benefits are included?
The half-price Individual-level membership offers all the benefits of a full-price Individual-level membership, except that it is not eligible for automatic renewal.
Can I use other discounts or promotional offers when I purchase the half-price Individual-level membership?
No. The half-price Individual-level membership is offered at a flat price of $65. Other discounts or promotional offers cannot be used at the same time.
How long does my membership last?
Your membership begins as soon as you join and remains active for one full year. It will expire on the last day of the same month the following year. (For example, if you join on May 20, 2026, your membership will be valid through May 31, 2027.)
Is the half-price Individual-level membership offer tax deductible?
Yes, it is fully tax deductible.
Is the half-price Individual-level membership offer available at all times?
The half-price Individual-level membership offer is only available during the activation period of the SFMOMA Scavenger Hunt (from February 26 to September 13, 2026). After September 13, 2026, this offer will no longer be available, but our standard Individual membership will continue to be available.
Can I gift this membership?
No. Due to the limited nature of the program, gift memberships are not available through this half-price Individual-level membership offer.
Will my membership auto-renew?
The half-price Individual-level membership will not auto-renew. Near the end of your term, you’ll have the option to continue as a standard Individual-level member (or another membership level).
