NARRATOR:

Dan Grahams Double Cylinder is a piece that you need to interact with. So go inside. Spend some time.

DAN GRAHAM:

Im not a sculptor. My work is not sculpture. Its halfway between sculpture, and architecture.

NARRATOR:

Heres Graham, discussing this, one of his Pavilion pieces.

GRAHAM:

I think they have to do with your self-perception, and your perception of other people. So of course that brings up emotional issues. I think theyre really like childhood experiences. And of course the whole idea of being seen by yourself, being seen by other people, is a very primitive kind of situation. When you see yourself as another, so your relationship to yourself, its a little bit alienating—so its like a funhouse, a little schizophrenic, but I think this is our experience in daily life.
