SFX: Ambiance of museum.

NARRATOR:

Thomas Struth made a whole series of pictures like this – candid portraits of people in museums. This one is a gallery at the Louvre in Paris. The Mona Lisa is actually just off to the right, but you cant see it – shes not the subject of this picture. Struth is more interested in those kids on the floor, what they are doing, what they look like.

They sit in a circular cluster of red and blue. Almost a mirror image of that huge painting looming above them to the left. The paintings all around this gallery, and the visitors here to look at them, each contain their own dynamic swirls of colors, and shapes, and gestures. Now look for a kid in a yellow and grey jacket, looking over his shoulder – straight into the camera. In that photographic instant, Struth was also being observed.

So, lets try an experiment, right here, right now, at this museum. Turn around and have a look at the other people in the room. How are they standing? What are they wearing? What are they looking at?
