A Love Letter to San Francisco: Stephen ESPO Powers

SFMOMA’s Modern Art Council invites you to the sixth annual ArtBites at FOG Design+Art Fair. Take a deep dive into the work of artist Stephen Powers (whose public art tag, ESPO, stands for Exterior Surface Painting Outreach). Powers, a Fulbright scholar known for his neighborhood interventions of typographic, iconographic, and poetic murals, is the author of five books including The Art of Getting Over, A Love Letter to the City, and the graphic novel First and Fifteenth: Pop Art Short Stories.

Join Stephen and Laurie Lazer, co-founder and director of San Francisco’s Luggage Store Gallery, for a conversation on public art in an age of collective anxiety, moderated by Joseph Becker, SFMOMA Associate Curator of Architecture and Design. Learn about Powers’ work, starting with his early graffiti notoriety up to his contemporary commissions surfacing soon in San Francisco.

ArtBites guests will enjoy a catered breakfast and juice by Jane, compelling conversation, and early entry to FOG Design+Art Fair.
