Thursday, July 28, 2011

6:30 p.m.

Participants

Dara Solomon, curator, Contemporary Jewish Museum

Contemporary Jewish Museum Curator Dara Solomon will give a brief overview of their current exhibition Seeing Gertrude Stein: Five Stories and discuss Stein’s enduring legacy for generations of artists, including Andy Warhol, Robert Indiana, Red Grooms, Glenn Ligon, and Deborah Kass, among others.

The Steins Collect is a guide to the personal and artistic relationships that formed the crucible of modern art. This series of five talks by curators and historians explores those relationships and describes how and why the story of modern art owes so much to that moment in history. It looks at the work of Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, and Gertrude Stein, three of the most adventurous artists of the period.
