Mike Kelley's Extracurricular Activities

Thursday, Jan 11, 2007

5:30 p.m.

Additional Info

John C. Welchman, professor of art history, University of California, San Diego, and chair, Southern California Consortium of Art Schools

The program begins with a screening of Kelley’s short film Extracurricular Activity Projective Reconstruction #2–32 (2004-5, 29 min.) and continues with clips from his epic Day Is Done (2005), a rambunctious vaudeville video review distributed across a series of 25 sculptural viewing stations that culminates in a three-hour film. Welchman discusses both pieces, works that offer disturbing glimpses inside some of the obscure communities that exist in the heart of America.
