Neshat’s first feature film, derived from Shahrnush Parsipur’s novel published immediately after the 1979 revolution in Iran, portrays the lives of three women who choose to seize their independence at a time when such behavior is simply not tolerated. Set in the early 1950s, when Iran sought independence from England only to fall under control of a United States-backed totalitarian regime, the tumultuous situation bears resemblance to the current political state in Iran following last year’s elections.

This is a promotional screening for the theatrical opening.
