Phyllis Wattis Theater

Neshat's first feature film, derived from Shahrnush Parsipur's novel published immediately after the 1979 revolution in Iran, portrays the lives of three women who choose to seize their independence at a time when such behavior is simply not tolerated. Set in the early 1950s, when Iran sought independence from England only to fall under control of a United States-backed totalitarian regime, the tumultuous situation bears resemblance to the current political state in Iran following last year's elections.

This is a promotional screening for the theatrical opening.
