SFMOMA Remembers David Ireland

Monday, Sept 14, 2009

4 p.m.

This memorial service honors Bay Area sculptor and conceptual artist David Ireland, who passed away last spring. Ireland was a central figure in conceptual art in the Bay Area and beyond. From the 1970s until his death, he produced a highly idiosyncratic body of work concerned with the creation and function of art within everyday life. The event includes a program in the Wattis Theater featuring speakers who were close to Ireland and his work, followed by a gathering in The Schwab Room. A gallery within the exhibition Matisse and Beyond is devoted to works by Ireland through November 8, 2009.
