Is fashion a form of sculpture?
The first major fashion exhibition at SFMOMA in more than 40 years, Dior to McQueen: Fashioning Form presents groundbreaking fashion designs from the past eight decades alongside sculpture, tracing the shared approaches to making across both creative worlds.
Encounter bold approaches to shape, texture, materials, and space through couture and avant-garde garments by fashion visionaries like Christian Dior, Alexander McQueen, Issey Miyake and Cristóbal Balenciaga, paired with works by Louise Bourgeois, Henry Moore and others. Featuring more than 60 artists and designers, the exhibition reveals striking parallels in how fashion and sculpture have responded to culture, technology and social change—blurring the boundaries between the two.
Dior to McQueen: Fashioning Form is curated by Ann Marguerite Tartsinis, primary curator and Jack M. and Annette Y. Friedland Curator and Head of Costume and Textiles at Philadelphia Museum of Art, with Daryl McCurdy, curatorial associate, architecture and design at SFMOMA.
