Inside Out

On view simultaneously at SFMOMA and the Asian Art Museum, Inside Out is the first exhibition in the United States exclusively dedicated to presenting works created since 1985 by artists from Mainland China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, and by artists who emigrated from China within the last decade. The exhibition was jointly organized by SFMOMA and the Asia Society, New York, working with guest curator Gao Minglu of Harvard University. Gary Garrels, SFMOMA Elise S. Haas chief curator and curator of painting and sculpture, and Colin Mackenzie, assistant director and curator of galleries at the Asia Society, New York, served as advisory curators to Mr. Gao.

Inside Out: New Chinese Art is organized by the Asia Society, New York, and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; presented in San Francisco at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Asian Art Museum.

The Inside Out: New Chinese Art exhibition and related programs are funded with major grants from The Starr Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, The Rockefeller Foundation, The W. L. S. Spencer Foundation, and the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts. The Taiwan portion of this project is supported in part by the Council for Cultural Affairs (ROC).
