New Work

Drawings Today
January 17–June 3, 1997

From exacting works created with traditional media to pieces that employ more experimental approaches and materials, New Work: Drawings Today presents a survey of contemporary drawings by 27 artists based primarily in New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. Representing a wide range of sensibilities and styles — from figurative to abstract, conceptual to notational — this exhibition of approximately 75 works highlights a resurgence in the medium. Featured artists include D-L Alvarez, Julie Becker, Mary Beyt, Ginny Bishton, Nayland Blake, Brad Brown, Elena del Rivero, Nicole Eisenman, Julia Fish, Tom Friedman, Ellen Gallagher, Jonathan Hammer, Barry McGee, Caitlin Mitchell-Dayton, Peter Mitchell-Dayton, Gabriel Orozco, Jennifer Pastor, Elizabeth Peyton, Peggy Preheim, Matthew Ritchie, Adam Ross, Katy Schimert, Gary Simmons, Frances Stark, George Stoll, Nicola Tyson, and William Wood.
