From the Archive: A Conversation with Chuck Close and Kiki Smith
This conversation between two modern art heavyweights inaugurated simultaneous exhibitions of their work at SFMOMA: Chuck Close: Self-Portraits, 1967-2005 and Kiki Smith: A Gathering, 1980-2005. Former SFMOMA curator Madeleine Grynsztejn and Walker Art Center curator Siri Engberg give brief presentations on the artists’ work and join in the discussion. Touching on topics ranging from craft and decorative traditions to the human body as artistic muse, this lively conversation highlights points of intersection between Close’s and Smith’s seemingly disparate practices.
