The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) opens for a day of art and fun celebrating the creative power of women to kick off Women’s History Month on Sunday, March 1, 2020, co-presented by the San Francisco Public Library. Families are welcome to choose from an array of activities, including art making inspired by Carol Bove’s dynamic sculptures, story time with San Francisco Public Library librarians, live “sound experiments” with Nevin Aladağ’s Resonator series and a treasure hunt around the museum. Visitors will experience seven floors of contemporary and modern art while enjoying current exhibitions on view, including Dawoud Bey: An American Project and 2019 SECA Art Award, among others. Visitors are also encouraged to drop in to the Roberts Family Gallery to witness artist JR’s animated digital mural, The Chronicles of San Francisco, celebrating the people and stories of San Francisco.
Admission on Free Family Day is free for up to two adults accompanying each visitor age 18 and younger. Tickets must be claimed in person only on the day of the event, and cannot be purchased in advance. Free Family Day activities will conclude at 4 p.m., while the galleries will remain open until the museum closes at 5 p.m. For more Free Family Day information, visit SFMOMA.org/FreeFamilyDay.
