In 2010 SFMOMA announced an unprecedented partnership to house and display the collection of Gap founders Doris and Donald Fisher — more than 1,100 works by iconic twentieth-century artists. This volume, published in conjunction with the exhibition Calder to Warhol: Introducing the Fisher Collection, showcases the depth and quality of the Fishers’ acquisitions and provides a richly illustrated glimpse into their extraordinary collection. Although the works span a variety of movements, from Pop art to abstraction, they are united by the Fishers’ shared passion for boldness, rich color and texture, and visually striking pieces. Illustrations of works by Alexander Calder, Anselm Kiefer, Roy Lichtenstein, Agnes Martin, Gerhard Richter, Andy Warhol, and many other artists are accompanied by insights from curator Gary Garrels and an interview with the Fishers by SFMOMA director Neal Benezra.

Published on the occasion of the exhibition Calder to Warhol: Introducing the Fisher Collection, held at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (June 25–September 19, 2010)
