In this photo of the back of the artwork, a strip of vibrant pink fabric peeks out where the top edge of the canvas (which is wrapped over a wooden stretcher) meets the boxlike wooden frame. The pink color further testifies to this artwork’s former life as one of Rauschenberg’s Red Paintings (1953–54).
