This detail of Sand (Hoarfrost Edition) shows the stamping that the artist applied by hand across the top of the verso of the work. (Seen through the front of the work, the marks appear in reverse.) The stamping mimics the markings used by textile manufacturers to indicate information such as pattern names and dye lot numbers—details that one would typically find in the selvage of a commercial fabric. The addition of the stamps underscores the play between handmade and manufactured qualities present throughout the work.
