What do you consider a “group” and what is the group discount?

A “group” is 10 or more people. To qualify for a group discount, you must purchase at least 10 tickets (not including free admission for SFMOMA members or visitors 18 and younger). How do I book group tickets and/or a private guided tour?

Group ticketing can be reserved through Tickets (for groups of 10–20 people); the group discount is automatically applied. For groups of 21 or more, and/or to reserve a private guided tour, submit a request through Group Visits. You will receive a response within a week with availability and final booking details.

How far in advance do I need to book a tour?

Private guided tours require booking at least two weeks in advance; however, we highly recommend booking further out to ensure you receive your preferred visit date.

We discourage adding extra guests to your tour on or near the date of your visit. However, we can accommodate last-minute guests if they comply with our Group Size policy. Reach out to your Group Sales contact directly for all late additions (see Group Size Policy).

If you need to add guests during weekend hours or the Group Sales team is unavailable, a comp ticket will be issued by the Visitor Experience team (Group Size policy permitting). The Group Sales team will follow up with you for payment after your visit.

When is payment needed for a private guided tour or group ticketing?

Payment is required at the time of booking to guarantee a reservation. If you’re unsure of your final head count, you may place a nonrefundable 25% deposit, which allows you to make changes up to two weeks prior to your arrival. All reservations and purchases are final, so we suggest having your final date and head count ready before booking. More information can be found in our Group Sales Policy.

Are group tickets refundable?

All deposits and prepaid group tickets are nonrefundable, but we are happy to reschedule or make changes to your visit as long as your request is at least 14 days prior to your initial reservation date. For more details, see our Group Sales Policy.

How long is a private guided tour, and what is the cost to extend it?

All of our private guided tours are 1 hour in length. Tours can be extended in 1 hour increments for an additional flat fee of $200/hour, per private guide (or $100/hour for SFMOMA Member groups).

Can my group arrive before the tour, or stay afterward?

Your group admission is valid all day. However, we highly recommend arriving at least 30 minutes before your tour start time. Following your tour, you are welcome to stay until closing. If you need a break, your admission allows reentry.

Can I book a private guided tour with less than 10 people?

Yes! There is no minimum number of people required for a private tour. Please note that for gallery tours, the minimum charge is $350 for the general public and $250 for SFMOMA members. For special exhibition tours, the minimum charge is $400 for the general public and $300 for SFMOMA members. For SFMOMA Corporate Members the minimum charge is $450 for a private guided tour.

Is there a private tour discount for members?

SFMOMA members may use their free admission benefits when booking or participating in a group tour.

If you or members of your group are SFMOMA members, we are happy to provide you with complimentary or discounted tickets based on your membership level, and adjust the cost of your order.

On your group registration form, please list the names and membership numbers of the participants you will be claiming tickets for on the day of your visit.

How do I book a group visit and/or private guided tour if my company is a corporate member?

Some corporate members receive free admission and/or private guided tour perks. Please check in with your SFMOMA corporate member contact or visit Corporate Engagement to learn more.

Does SFMOMA have group dining options or boxed lunches?

Yes! SFMOMA offers Boxed Lunches through Cafe 5, our restaurant located on Floor 5. To place an order, please fill out our Boxed Lunch Order Form, and submit to groups@sfmoma.org at least 1 week in advance of your arrival. Seating at Cafe 5 is first come, first served and cannot be reserved in advance. Our Group Sales team is happy to make nearby recommendations if reserved seating is needed.

Additional dining options include the Sightglass at SFMOMA coffee bar on Floor 3, and In Situ, located at street level near our entrance at Third Street, which serves lunch Thursday–Tuesday and dinner Thursday–Sunday.
