Explore the Museum

Find more that moves you throughout the museum while you’re here.

Stop by the White Box on Floor 4 for a folklórico dance performance and workshop.

Then see how photographers masterfully captured rhythm in Feel the Beat: Dance in Photographs. Dance unfolds over time through fluid movement, whereas photography freezes that motion in a single, suspended frame. Explore what happens when these two art forms merge.

Also, don’t miss Graciela Iturbide: Between Two Worlds, a major retrospective spanning more than five decades of work by the celebrated Mexican photographer who explores daily life and ritual in Mexico and beyond.

Y La Bamba

Luz Elena Mendoza is a first-generation Mexican American producer, multi-disciplinary artist, and force behind the critically acclaimed project Y La Bamba. Since emerging from Portland’s indie scene nearly two decades ago, she has carved out a space in contemporary music. With a singular, avant-garde spirit, Mendoza blends deeply rooted Mexican folk traditions and emotionally charged songwriting with an experimental, soulful psychedelic sound.

Across six studio albums, Mendoza has undergone a profound evolution from a raw singer-songwriter into a boundary-pushing producer—a transformation fully realized in the lush, expansive landscapes of her latest LP, Lucha (2023). Her music has earned praise from NPR Music, KEXP, Pitchfork, and more along the way. Her live performances bring this innovation to the forefront, pairing intricate musicianship with emotional intensity.
